Event Details

The U.S. Foreign Policy Colloquium (FPC), one of the of National Committee on U.S.-China Relations’ flagship programs for next generation leaders, provides 75 of the best and brightest Chinese graduate students a deeper and more nuanced understanding of the complex forces that shape American foreign policy and inform the U.S.-China relationship.

Through site visits, lectures, and discussions, FPC participants leave the program better equipped to play productive, well-informed roles in the future management of Chinese policy vis-à-vis the United States. The 2017 FPC will run from Tuesday, May 30 to Friday, June 2 in Washington, D.C. Interested students can apply today through our website!

This year’s program highlights include…

  • Interview with Susan A. Thornton, Acting Assistant Secretary of State, Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs
    • Three participants will have the opportunity to personally interview Assistant Secretary Thornton, one of the key architects of the recent Trump-Xi Summit at Mar-a-lago
  • Reception and Discussion at the Chinese Embassy with Ambassador Cui Tiankai and Chinese diplomats
    • The Chinese Embassy will host participants for a closing night reception and Q & A session with Embassy section chiefs
  • Interactive Workshop at the Newseum to explore the role of media in foreign policy
    • Small-group session on free press in the U.S. and time to explore Newseum exhibits
  • Keynote address by The Honorable Wendy R. Sherman, former Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs at the U.S. Department of State; Senior Counselor, Albright Stonebridge Group

The application deadline is Wednesday, May 10 and we don’t want anyone to miss the chance to apply for this exclusive program.

Accepted applicants will be required to pay a $200 participation fee that covers food and lodging costs. Travel stipends are available for those students who qualify, but are dispersed on a first-come, first-served basis.
