Position Summary 

This role will be the most senior role within the Obentos group in Beijing. We are seeking a candidate that can lead the business in Beijing and make sure it continues to operate successfully. Candidate will be in charge of all senior management and store management, will be responsible for ensuring each department is running smoothly and efficiently and to be able to make changes where necessary to ensure company targets are satisfied. 

The GM will be working directly under the groups CEO and he will be the point of contact for all issues regarding the Beijing business. This role will be all encompassing and with scope covering HR, Finance, Operations, Purchasing, Marketing and Store Operations. Candidate will be expected to assess and analyze existing business and all current issues, and implement efficient plans to improve all areas of the business. 

Candidate will be directly responsible for all costings within the business and will be expected to guide operations to within budget and also ensure healthy profit margins are attained over financial year. Candidate must also look to work to drive marketing opportunities to drive revenues to ensure stable income is achieved and targets are met.  

Key Responsibilities 

  • Position will be responsible for all operations in Beijing 
  • Ensure all stores operate under strict standard operating procedures set out by CEO 
  • Candidate will be responsible for assessing current existing SOP’s and to change / add wherever necessary 
  • Review current costings and implement strategy to ensure all stores operate within budget 
  • Ensure all stores work towards and attain revenue targets 
  • Look for opportunities to drive revenues and attain more stable cash flow throughout financial year 
  • Ensure all staff meet company requirements 
  • Implement all necessary new measures to ensure business is run in efficient and consistent manner 
  • Work directly with all senior management to ensure their work is meeting requirements and all departments operating effectively and efficiently 
  • To spend sufficient time in all stores to check on service, food quality, efficiency and customer satisfaction

  • Very strong background in food and beverage 
  • Understands multi chain restaurant systems and requirements 
  • Understands how to implement in China market 
  • Understands what SOP’s are necessary to achieve financial objectives 
  • Understands what SOP’s are necessary to achieve consistent food quality & service objectives 
  • Understands what training demands must be implemented to ensure the business creates a positive environment for its staff 
  • Understands what work environment needs to be created to achieve a more stable HR 
  • Understands effective marketing strategy for F&B market in Beijing 
  • Passionate about food industry and has long terms prospects to grow in food market 
  • Passionate about health in China and understands long terms trends in this market 
  • Understands other leading players in the health space in China and the success strategies that they have used to get there
  • Highly creative and can think outside of the box in terms of how we can position the brand in the eye of the consumer
  • Passionate about educating the public on benefits of healthy eating and leading healthy lifestyle  

A General Manager is expected to serve both internal and external customers 

Internal Customers :  

  1. CEO
  2. All Operational Management
  3. All Store Managers 

External Customers :  

  1. All suppliers
  2. All partners
  3. All corporate customers 

Qualifications and Experience 

  • Minimum 6 years experience in food and beverage 
  • Minimum 3 years experience in multi chain concept 
  • Native Chinese language or very strong foreign speaker 
  • Fluent in English (including reading / writing) 
  • Strong PC and Microsoft Office ability 
  • Ability to manage budget and manage business P&L 
  • Ability to develop and implement detailed SOP’s in every area of a business 
  • Ability to outline and focus on key KPI’s of a business, build and implement strategy to drive them 
  • Great communicator and ability to work with staff from across China 
  • Team player, willing to work incredibly hard and to always go above and beyond in the work place
