Overview

Job Description

Riot Games was established in 2006 by entrepreneurial gamers who believe that player-focused game development can result in great games. In 2009, Riot released its debut title League of Legends to critical and player acclaim. As the most played PC game in the world, over 100 million play every month. Players form the foundation of our community and it’s for them that we continue to evolve and improve the League of Legends experience.

We’re looking for humble but ambitious, razor-sharp professionals who can teach us a thing or two. We promise to return the favor. Like us, you take play seriously; you’re passionate about games. We embrace those who see things differently, aren’t afraid to experiment, and who have a healthy disregard for constraints.

That’s where you come in.

As Localization Manager, you aspire to delight players with a language that resonates with them. You understand that localization does not mean translation and you guard the quality bar closely, always pushing things to the next level. You’re artistic, able to write like a poet, and have a long term strategic point of view about how our language taste and style should be. You’ll optimize our content localization process and identify ways to scale it while meeting player experience expectations.

YOU ARE:

Experienced: you’ve spent 2+ years in a dedicated localization role and are fluent in Chinese and English language with extensive knowledge about Chinese culture; additional knowledge of HTML and video production is a plus

A poetic writer: you treat writing as a craft, studying and honing it by practicing and experimenting every day, participating in writers’ groups, and reading other writers who inspire you; you pay attention to every detail with language, and when content passes under your microscope, you pour over every detail to dissect errors and suggest fixes

Stylistic: you have a clear sense about what good taste and high quality content looks like; you have extensive knowledge about gaming, literature, and movie languages; you know how to use words to further shape our products to premium level

An organized, long-term planner: your calendar-management skills are strong, and you’re flexible enough to schedule and complete projects in a continuous live-service environment with tight deadlines; you’re able to work under pressure and are not someone who needs to be micromanaged; you don’t wait around for problems or quality concerns to hit others’ radars before brainstorming a fix

A capable and proven leader: you have extensive experience leading, growing, and evolving a team; you’re able to manage external vendors and partners so well that they can deliver good quality content within tight deadlines

Player-focused: as a player yourself, you know that subpar localization disrupts the player experience, whereas great localization brings clarity to gameplay and makes players feel like they’re being given the right kind of attention

Familiar with the tools of the trade: you bring a working knowledge of game development, audio recording processes, and localization tools (such as Loctool and Xloc); an intermediate to advanced understanding of planning and bug database tools will score you extra points

YOU WILL:

Manage localization projects and assist in planning new launches by creating localization kits, assessing timelines for content releases, and monitoring for cultural or technical snafus

Work with teams and vendors abroad to tackle each phase of localization, including translation, recording, integration, and QA

Work in tandem with Localization, Web, and Publishing to improve localization quality of all Riot Games content

Grow a team that exceeds the expectations of players and the needs of our aggressive content delivery timelines

Oversee global localization processes and tools and suggest iteration paths to keep them running at max efficiency

Scour forums, fan sites, and other communities to gather feedback regarding localization; always be thinking about what’s next with regard to the evolution of localization

Don’t forget to include a resume and cover letter. We receive a lot of applications, but we’ll notice a fun, well-written intro that shows us you take play seriously.
