About USAID COMET
USAID COMET and VIA are partnering to send VIA/USAID “Connecting the Mekong through Education and Training” (USAID COMET) Fellows to support Mekong Learning Centers (MLCs) – institutional leaders that are USAID COMET university and post-secondary vocational institution partners – in four of the five Lower Mekong countries (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam) to implement the project’s training approach, build linkages with business partners, and foster partnerships with institutional leaders.The goal of the USAID COMET Project is to increase the number of skilled workers in the Lower Mekong countries focusing on science, technology, engineering, mathematics, accounting, and tourism (STEM+AT) skill areas. USAID COMET will achieve this by enhancing the capacity of educational institutions to deliver STEM+AT curricula that close the gap between skills that are taught and skills that are actually required to effectively carry out STEM+AT jobs, and by leveraging technology in connecting instructors, learners and employers. USAID COMET will also bring together public and private sector partners and use information technology to deliver accessible training in key sectors.

Responsibilities
Work closely with the USAID COMET Training Manager, Senior Institutional Specialist, and the Senior Partnerships Manager to support the mentoring/coaching for Mekong Learning Centers (MLCs) in the assigned country with the following key tasks:

  • Provide technical assistance to instructors at MLCs on work-readiness skills, industry linkages, information and communications technology, and pedagogical approaches
  • Ensure that the MekongSkills2Work Sourcebook is implemented to program standards
  • Assist with leadership development at both the instructional and institutional levels
  • Assist and support with project monitoring and performance documentation
  • Assist with preparation of institutional level training in the assigned country
  • Support USAID COMET to scope, review, and select new educational institutions in the assigned country
  • Collaborate with USAID COMET to produce communication materials that highlight key program areas and successes to be shared at the 2017 Leadership Summit for MLCs
  • Travel to all MLCs in country on a scheduled basis and to regional program activities

Required Qualifications
University degree with at least 3-5 years of professional work experience in any of the following fields of work:

  • Teaching
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Accounting and Tourism
  • Information and Communications Technology

Desired Qualifications

  • Professional teacher development and/or educational institution strengthening experience
  • Experience with curriculum development, instructional design, and/or training
  • Experience with website/web portal development, apps development, and online content development and management
  • Experience with public private partnerships, workforce development, and building business relationships
  • Ability to balance work within a team environment while also working independently
  • Ability to prioritize and manage activities with minimum supervision
  • Strong organizational, communication, computer, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Knowledge of local language in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam 

Location & Logistics
Fellows will be placed at one of the programs partner institutions in one of the four target countries.

Housing Information
Fellows receive a monthly housing allowance and rent an apartment.
