I’m looking to have a field trip to China for 10 days over the summer for 30 students and 5 teachers.
I was wondering if anyone knew of what would be the best place to look for support in funding this trip.
Are you currently affiliated with a particular high school, and would the trip be limited to teachers and students from that school?
I am with Fairchild Wheeler High School in Bridgeport, CT we are a TitleIX school.
Parents can also be asked to attend trip.
I would like to start with this school and then in the future get other schools involved.
That sounds great! Are you a student or educator/faculty there? Just to be clear – we are not a grant-making organization but we are happy to try and help give any tips and advice we can.
I am an educator and would appreciate any help in pointing me in the right direction.
Thank you so much for your help.
Are you looking for someone or a firm on the ground that can organize such a trip or are you looking for funding for the trip?
Both I guess, this is my first time trying to organize such a trip.
Thanks for clarifying – how exciting for you and your students! We hope you don’t mind a few more questions so we can try to get you relevant information. 1) Do you have a budget already for the trip, and if not have you tried asking your school or running a fundraiser? 2) Assuming this would be the students’ first time in China, do you have any specific goals for their language learning or cultural exchange elements? 3) What specific places in China did you have in mind to visit?
Some teachers we know have direct contacts at Chinese high schools or Universities that help them plan the exchange. In doing a quick search, we found this guide with some basic information covering several aspects of planning the trip that might help: https://www.chinatravel.com/how-to-plan-a-trip-to-china-step-by-step/
Alternatively, many existing study abroad programs offer customized programs in cases such as these that you could consider as well. We have reached out to our friends in the study abroad network for a ballpark estimate based on the numbers you mentioned (30 students and 5 teachers for 10 days). We will be sure to share that feedback with you!
If anyone is interested in planning an educational travel program or just a backpacker trip to China (or SE Asia) for either school groups (both within and outside of China) or solo travellers, there are plenty of companies who specialize in running such trips. There are premade itineraries, trusted suppliers and expert guides all at the ready. If you’d like to customize a trip for your or your school’s needs of course that is possible as well.
You can find organizations like https://thedragontrip.com/about-us/ who would be more than willing to give you advice and help in planning a school trip to China whether it is 10 days or a month. There are also study abroad organizations who take students to China and beyond high-school-summer-abroad-blog.ciee.org/
