Project Pengyou just moved into new headquarters – inside a hutong!

A hutong is a traditional residential area that was the staple of Old Beijing. From Wikipedia:

Hutongs (simplified Chinese: 胡同; traditional Chinese: 衚衕; pinyin: hútòng) are a type of narrow streets or alleys, most commonly associated with Beijing, China. In Beijing, hutongs are alleys formed by lines of siheyuan, traditional courtyard residences. Many neighborhoods were formed by joining one siheyuan to another to form a hutong, and then joining one hutong to another. The word hutong is also used to refer to such neighborhoods.

Our hutong office has two main rooms: one that we will use as office space for daily operations, and the other to be used as a venue for special events. There’s also a fairly sized kitchen where we can cook many futurejiaozhi dinners. Mmm, haochi!

Our courtyard space (which we have christened “People’s Square”) will be great for outdoor mixers or after-work hangout sessions during the warmer months.  We’re excited to make this place home-y and welcoming for all our Pengyou guests. So many possibilities!

And we’ve already been visited by some friendly hutong neighbors!
