In advance of a historic performance this September by Madame Zhang, the Reigning Queen of Peking Opera, at the Lincoln Center, the Renwen Society at China Institute and the Confucius Institute for Business at the State University of New York (CIB) jointly present a lecture on the artistry of Mme. Zhang and history of the selected operas.

About Zhang Huoding, Reigning Queen of Peking Opera, and Two Peking Operas

This September, New Yorkers will enjoy a production of the acclaimed Peking operas The Legend of the White Snake and The Jewelry Pouch at the David Koch Theater of Lincoln Center. Legendary Peking Opera star, Zhang Huoding, for her Lincoln Center debut, will perform the lead parts in the two operas, which are two of her signature roles. Mme. Zhang is considered the best Peking Opera singer of the last 100 years. Her gift for expressing emotion and thoughts through acting and singing, have won her the acclaim of both the traditional Peking Opera audience and the younger generation.

In advance of this historic performance at Lincoln Center, the Renwen Society at China Institute and the Confucius Institute for Business at the State University of New York (CIB) jointly present a lecture on the artistry of Mme. Zhang and history of the selected operas. The speaker, Mr. Ben Wang, is an eminent Peking Opera and Kunqu scholar and specialist.
