Adapted from one of China’s best-loved novels, A Dream of Red Pavilions is a Qing Dynasty love story set against the backdrop of an aristocratic family’s decline. When spirit-being Jia Baoyu is reborn as a mortal, he finds himself torn between love and sensual pleasures, and duty to his family. But the Jia family itself is falling apart—living in unimaginable luxury despite its heavy debts, and out of touch with the real world. Why were we put on earth, and what do our desires amount to? A tale of spirituality versus humanity, set in the milieu of the one percent of 18th-century China.

The cast features Jomar Tagatac, Leah Anderson, Erica Sullivan, Paul Juhn, Cristofer Jean, Terri McMahon, Nancy Rodriguez, Sara Bruner, K.T. Vogt, Regan Linton, Allison Buck and Moira Todd.

The reading is produced by Kamilah Long and Dramaturgy by Isabel Smith-Bernstein. https://www.osfashland.org/productions/2015-activities-and-events/reading.aspx
