Morton Holbrook, a retired US diplomat, will discuss the course of US-China relations from 1979 through the present. Holbrook, who arrived in Beijing when the US Embassy opened in March, 1979, served in diplomatic posts in China for 10 years, was a professor in China for five years, and has been director of the Hong Kong America Center for the past three years. He will examine the bilateral relationship from the point of view of both a practitioner of diplomacy and an observer over the past four decades, looking at where the relationship has been, where it seems to be heading, and how the upcoming US Presidential election might affect that relationship.
