Mark your calendars for next week’s lecture by University of Chicago Historian (and past president of the American Historical Association) Kenneth Pomeranz. An award-winning author of books on China, Prof. Pomeranz will be lecturing on the question of “Why is China so Big?” His talk examines conceptual changes in the late 18th and early 19th century that involved a re-thinking of physical space, helping form the concept of the modern Chinese nation state.
