Assistant Director, Columbia Global Centers East Asia

 

Company Info:
Columbia Global Centers | East Asia (哥伦比亚大学全球中心 | 东亚) was one of the first centers to launch in March 2009 and is based in Beijing, China. The Center is directed by Joan Kaufman, faculty member of the Department of Health Policy and Management at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, who most recently was a lecturer at Harvard Medical School and distinguished scientist at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management, Brandeis University. The Center’s Faculty Steering Committee is chaired by Gerald L. Curtis, Burgess Professor of Political Science, Department of Political Science at Columbia University. 
The major foci of the center include urbanization and urban design, economics, urban health, international affairs, and undergraduate programs. The Center’s projects include the Urban China Initiative, focused on advancing the research and practice of urbanization issues in China, and the Weatherhead Forum in Beijing, dedicated to fostering dialogue between scholars and students in China and conducted in partnership with Columbia’s Weatherhead East Asian Institute. The Center is also supporting Antarctic Forum in conjunction with Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia, as well as evaluating The Sustainability Consortium’s sustainable sourcing initiative in China in collaboration with Earth Institute. In addition to providing undergraduate students with internship opportunities, the Center hosts the Global Scholars Program, an undergraduate summer course led by Columbia faculty.

Education: University / College Degree

 

Required Skills:

  • Qualifications for applicants
  • Master’s degree from a US university (preferably Columbia University)
  • Experience working overseas 
  • Familiarity with U.S and China higher education system
  • At least five years of previous work experience as research manager or program manager supervising other program and operations staff
  • Ability to write well in English
  • Strong sense of maturity and integrity
  • Chinese National, native Mandarin speaker but fluent in English

The Columbia Global Centers | East Asia (CGC|EA) office is now recruiting an Assistant Director
Responsibilities
Working with the Director to:
Assist various Columbia University Units to sustain partnerships, programs and projects in East Asia with local universities, think tanks, government organizations, and non-governmental organizations.
Networking and business development to initiate new University and Center programs and projects 
Initiate and supervise Center events and conferences
Management of projects and programs with other global centers
Alumni, Columbia Parents, Advisory Board, Friends of Columbia outreach and engagement 
Assist in government relations and outreach
