Job Description
Occupational Summary:
Since the program is new to both DKU and China, DKU is looking for candidates that are willing and able to plan and take part in a wide variety of activities that will promote the program in China and internationally. Once the program is launched in the market, the Assistant Director would be responsible primarily for growing enrollments of qualified students in the International Master’s in Environmental Management and Policy program (IMEMP).
Reports to:
Director of IMEMP program, with a dotted line reporting relationships to the Director of Global Student Recruiting.
Essential Duties:
- Creating and implementing a comprehensive annual recruiting strategy; this includes developing appropriate faculty/staff/student contacts at targeted institutions throughout China and Asia, conducting 30‐40 campus visits annually, identifying and participating in national and international conferences representing DKU‐IMEMP and other actions as directed.
- Developing and implementing a comprehensive annual marketing strategy which promotes DKU‐IMEMP enrollment efforts; this includes control and design of all print materials, all forms of social media outreach, campus postering, and other mediums as appropriate.
- Supporting marketing efforts originated and led by DKU’s Communication Department, including updating the program’s web pages and producing regular news and information that can be published on the University’s website.
- Coordinating on‐line application process with Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment and the Sanford School of Public Policy. Overseeing the admissions process for the IMEMP Selection Committee.
- Managing student inquiries. Communicating directly with students from their initial inquiry to participation in a DKU‐IMEMP course. Using Six Points of Contact strategy with every prospective student.
- Managing and tracking student applications including all necessary forms required by Duke, DKU and IMEMP.
- Facilitating the awarding of scholarship aid to students.
- Communicating student information to appropriate DKU‐IMEMP faculty and staff.
- Maintaining detailed and accurate budget for all IMEMP marketing and recruitment efforts.
- Maintaining detailed reports on all marketing and recruiting activities.
- Actively participating in all staff training and development events.
- Maintaining a positive attitude and display a willingness to be an effective team leader and/or member.
- Providing project management and administrative support to the Director of the IMEMP during the start‐up phase of the program on an as needed basis.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Qualification:
- Master’s degree (preferably in Environmental Studies) and 2 year experience in international education or study abroad.
- Demonstrated project management and planning skills for complex projects with tight deadlines.
- Minimum of five years professional experience in academic admissions and recruitment, academic administration or international education or related area.
- Ability to be an effective team member and to work independently.
- Proficiency in use of computers (MACs) and new technologies.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills in both Chinese and English.
- Must be skilled in the use of graphic design and photo editing software.
- Highly organized with ability to multi‐task.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and to travel extensively during major recruiting seasons (September 1 – November 15, January 15 – May 15).
- Results‐oriented individual with strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
- History of working successfully as part of a team.
