Language World Services, Inc. Interpreter aims to bridge the communication and cultural gap that exists between clients who are Limited English/Non-English Proficient and a variety of English speaking service providers. The interpreter facilitates communication in the client-provider relationship ultimately resulting in improved client language access. Core Job Responsibilities · Grasp ideas spoken and heard only once, then convey them in a second language instantly, accurately and completely, adhering to the style and intent of the speaker · Provide cultural frameworks as necessary to bridge understanding between parties who do not share a common culture. · Perform interpreting in-person or via electronic means (phone/video). · Dispatched to client request locations on a daily basis. · Interpreters also may be asked to sight-translate information that includes, but is not limited to: healthcare forms and materials, regulations, research reports, and other similar documents. · Maintain confidentiality regarding personal or healthcare issues or any other information learned during an interpreting encounter as required by HIPAA. · Records and compiles daily interpreter encounters by submitting data (Voucher/Timecard) on a daily basis, and on time for weekly, monthly and annual statistical reporting. · Travel to various locations within the defined region with unfailing punctuality to all interpreting assignments. · Submit other required documentation in an organized and timely manner. · Provide stellar customer service to clients. · Other duties as assigned. Qualifications & Requirements · Exhibit and maintain professional and ethical behavior at all times. · Must successfully pass pre-screening tests (unless certified by a recognized National Certification). · Fluently speak, read, and write in English and in a second, required language. · Ability to professionally communicate with various diverse backgrounds and cultures. · Provide stellar customer service to both internal and external customers. · Work effectively with minimal supervision. · Must have flexibility to take assignments during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). · Successful completion of a verbal medical terminology/target language examination. · Required health screening to include TB, MMR, HepB, TDAP, and Varicella (and flu vaccination during flu season) proof of immunity during onboarding and annual upkeep.
· Maintain acceptable criminal, background, DMV, and drug screen verifications.
· Comfortable working with various computer systems and the internet. · Knowledge of anatomy, major body systems, and medical terminology in at least two languages. · Knowledge of Professional Standards and Protocols for Healthcare Interpreters preferred.
