(ISRI Program)
The SJTU International Summer Research Internship Program seeks to promote international research collaboration and to enhance the academic environment at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. It offers top undergraduate students from around the world the opportunity to work at world class research laboratories under prominent research professors. Students who participate in ISRI will gain valuable research experience, preparation for graduate studies, and the chance to experience life in Shanghai. The inaugural ISRI Program will last for 6-10 weeks from June to August 2016.

Eligibility Requirements
All applicants must:
● Students from Hongkong, Taiwan, Macao and abroad must be enrolled as
undergraduate students prior to applying for this program
● Be in their second or third year of undergraduate study
● Hold at least a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale
● Students of non-English speaking countries must provide English language proficiency certificate, IELTS no less than 6.5, and TOEFL no less than 90 points. If you are in the college for English teaching programs, please provide relevant certificates.
● Have at least one prior research experience
● Additional requirements vary by laboratory
Application Procedures
1. Check the list of laboratories and contact your preferred laboratory to match your research interest and discuss the research internship program before applying for the program
2. Prepare the application documents, including official transcript in English, English test report, Curriculum Vitae, Motivation letter, and recommendation letter.
3. Submit your online application through isc.sjtu.edu.cn
Timeline
December – January
Applicants check the available laboratories and start preparing the application
January – April
Applicants file online applications and submit relevant documents
April – May
SJTU committee announces the selection results and sends out interview notice to selected applicants
May – June
SJTU sends admission notice and visa papers to the selected applicants
June – August
Students arrive at SJTU campus and the program begins.

Program Expenses
Scholarship Opportunities
● Tuition fee waived for all participants
● University council will consider all applicants for the opportunity to earn an allowance for accommodation and meal plans. In the end, 50% of participants will receive scholarship for accommodation and meal plans
● Other funds are available from some laboratories. Please contact each lab for further information
Accommodation
SJTU will reserve on campus accommodation for the selected applicants, we will release the online application address for accommodation soon after the admission.
Visa
SJTU will provide the application form (JW 202 form). The applicant should bring the visa paper, Admission Notice as well as a valid passport to the Chinese embassy or consulate to apply for a short term student visa (usually the visa type “X2”). Those who are already in China need to submit a copy of the visa page together with other application documents.
The JW 202 form and the admission notice will be sent to the applicant by the international courier within two weeks after the approval of the application.
Insurance
Liability insurance: Students who plan to attend this program should have obtained insurances before they come to study in China.
Certificate
After completing the ISRI Program and submitting the final report, you will receive a certificate awarded by SJTU.
