Job Description
The U.S. Consulate / Department of Commerce is looking for 10 students (grad or undergrad) or recent alumni to volunteer for 3.5 days as Student Assistants to U.S. healthcare and medical device companies during the largest medical trade show in China taking place in mid-May. The Student Assistant will be assigned to a specific U.S. company whose CEO and/or senior executive manager will be within a U.S. Department of Commerce-supported meeting space in the USA Pavilion of the China Medical Equipment trade show (May 15-18, Shanghai Hongqiao International Exhibition and Convention Center).
U.S. and foreign students are encouraged to apply. English and Chinese language proficiency is the top considering factor, in addition to being available for the full time. Students or alumni with an interest in international business, trade policy, and healthcare might be particularly interested. The time commitment is May 15-17 from 9:00-6:00pm and May 18 from 9:00-12:00p. Meals and transportation allowance will be provided.
Student Assistants would be expected to help with arranging meetings during the show, gathering market research, and attending the B2B meetings between U.S. companies and their potential Chinese business partners. To help prepare the students, the companies will be introduced to each Student Assistant two weeks before the show.
Specific tasks the Student Assistants would be expected to do include locating potential distributors/dealers/agents in China, facilitating business introductions and basic interpreting during meetings, finding information on China standards, finding end users / key opinion leaders at the show to introduce them to the company, surveying distributors on the floor, etc.
