Q: Who/What/When/Where/Why?

A: US-China Comedy Center (USCCC) is a new Comedy Club / Social Enterprise founded in 2016.

USCCC the brainchild of Jesse Appell, who began researching and performing Xiangsheng “Cross-talk” Comedy a Fulbright grant in 2012.

Since then, he’s used comedy as a way to bring together China and the West, because comedy is a fantastic way of reminding us that we’re all just trying to get through life, right?

Based in the gorgeous Project Pengyou Courtyard in the Gulou area in the heart of Beijing, USCCC is a creative workshop space in the day and an event space at night. Every month, we have shows with Chinese and English Standup (Talkshow), Improv Comedy, and traditional Xiangsheng “Crosstalk” comedy.

We want people of different cultures to laugh with each other rather than at each other. We want a world with a little less conflict and a little more laughter.

答： 2016年建立的中美喜剧中心是一个新的喜剧俱乐部与社会企业。

中心启发与创始人艾杰西Jesse Appell。艾杰西，一名美国著名富布赖特学者，2012年来到北京，通过拜相声大师丁广泉为师研究中国幽默和喜剧表演文化。

这几年以来，杰西坚持用喜剧拉近中美文化距离，以为百姓笑声能让我们记住中外人民心中距离没有人所说的的那么大。

中美喜剧中心在鼓楼附近的《Project朋友》四合院，白天是喜剧艺术工作室，黑天是活动场所。每个月，都会办中英两个语言的脱口秀， 即兴喜剧，和传统相声活动。

本中心的目的是让全世界的人民一起笑，创造一个笑声多一点，冲突少一点的世界。

Q: Comedy Center intern… what do I actually do?

A: Good question. Part of that depends on you and your time. But in any case, as a USCCC intern, you’ll help…

·      Help manage and promote hilarious shows and events;

·      Develop new intercultural comedy shows and concepts with Jesse and other comedians at USCCC;

·      Further the Center’s mission of connecting China and the West through laughter.

问： 喜剧中心的实习生。。。。能不能具体说有什么任务？

答： 没问题！工作在一些方面得看你本人优点在哪儿，但实习生将会：

·      负责主办现场活动的管理和活动宣传；

·      和艾杰西以及喜剧圈子的朋友一起创办新的喜剧节目；

·      为了喜剧中心的目的通过喜剧促进中外交流的目的做出贡献。

Q: What are you looking for in an intern? Do I need to be funny?

A: Nah, not necessarily. But you will need…

·      Flexibility—Every day and challenge is different! We roll with things China-style.

·      Reliability—The first rule my Shifu taught me: If you say you’re there, you’re there.

·      Linguibility—We’re a bilingual, multicultural space. You’re going to be speaking, typing, and reading both Chinese and English.

·      Funability—Perhaps most important—we want to have fun together. If “US”, “China”, and “Comedy” don’t sound fun to you, we probably can’t help you.

问： 喜剧中心的实习生是什么样的人呢？让我讲段子吗？

答： 不让你讲！我们找的实习生需要：

·      灵活：每周的工作不一样！我们需要灵活，能随着中心的发展的人。

·      靠谱：师父收徒以后第一讲的知识是：不需放鸽子！说来就得来！

·      双语：我们是跨文化空间，中英双语的听说读打的交流能力很关键。

·      快乐：我们是喜剧中心！我们希望原意一起玩儿，快乐活泼地过日子的人。

Q: Any specific time details?

A: It will depend week to week, but you can expect to spend:

·    5-10 hours at the theatre per week, mostly on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday nights;

·      5-10 hours per week offsite, managing Internet promotion, comedian relations, and center development.

问： 那，时间要求呢？

答： 虽然每周的任务会稍微不一样，但每周大概会要求你：

·      在剧场呆5-10个小时，最多在周三，周五，周六的晚上；

·      上线工作5-10个小时的工作，负责活动策划，宣传，以及中心全面的发展。
