About the Yale‐China Association:

The Yale‐China Association inspires Chinese and American people to learn and serve together. Founded in 1901 by graduates of Yale University, we foster long‐term relationships that improve education, health, and cultural understanding in China and the United States. The Yale‐China Association is a non‐profit organization registered in New Haven, CT and Hong Kong. Though closely affiliated with Yale University, Yale‐China is separately incorporated and administered.

 Position Description:

The Hong Kong Director serves as Yale-China’s senior representative at New Asia College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and in Hong Kong more broadly. The Director resides on the campus of CUHK, participates in New Asia College and CUHK life, including teaching, ceremonial and administrative duties, engages in Yale-China activities, especially its education and fellows programs, and oversees the Yale-China Hong Kong Office.  The HK Director reports to the Director of Education on matters related to education programs, and more broadly to the Executive Director on other matters.

Hong Kong Director Responsibilities:

        Serve as the Yale-China Association’s senior representative at New Asia College and in Hong Kong. This role involves liaison and communication with New Asia College and The Chinese University of Hong Kong as well as service on designated New Asia College committees and attendance at college-wide functions;

        Provide teaching and site support to the Yale-China Association’s prestigious and long-standing Yale-China Fellowship Program, including leading the annual August training and orientation of the Fellows in Hong Kong, visiting the Fellows’ sites in Changsha, Hong Kong, Zhuhai, Wuhan, and Xiuning throughout the academic year to provide support and additional teacher training, implementing the annual November and Spring conferences, and coordinating with and reporting to the Director of Education in New Haven;

        Teach at least one course per year at New Asia College/the Chinese University of Hong Kong and seek ways to engage in academic life at the College;

        Represent Yale-China when Yale-China program participants are visiting Hong Kong, notably the Yale University-New Asia College (YUNA) Exchange Program;

        Support Yale-China’s development, arts, and networking initiatives in Hong Kong.

LEVEL OF LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

A Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree with experience in international educational exchange required.

Skills and Abilities:

        University-level teaching experience;

        Deep interest in and past engagement with U.S.-China exchange and cooperation;

        Demonstrated experience leading and managing programs;

        Ability to thrive in a cross‐cultural environment;

        Knowledge of non-profit organizations and experience in Hong Kong and China preferred;

        Chinese language proficiency required;

        15% travel to mainland and North America required.
