Yesterday, LC’s Project Pengyou President (myself) and Vice President Raymond Torkelson visited Lake Oswego Junior High School. We presented to a class of 40 7th and 8th graders, showing them photos from our study abroad experiences as well as our Summer 2015 internships in Beijing and Shanghai. We talked about what it’s really like living in China compared to the news, why we need more Americans with firsthand China experience, and the career benefits of studying Mandarin. In celebration of Chinese New Year, Raymond shared photos from celebrating Spring Festival in Beijing last year. The students were really engaged and had a lot of questions. They will all have the opportunity to pursue Mandarin in their public high school, so hopefully our presentation encouraged people to take advantage of the program!
