ABOUT PROJECT PENGYOU CHAPTERS:
Project Pengyou Chapters are campus-based groups built by trained Project Pengyou Leadership Fellows that promote collaboration, fight xenophobia and encourage inclusion and mutual understanding between Americans and Chinese.
Project Pengyou Chapters do this by hosting discussions, lectures, and activities to elevate the dialogue on campus regarding US-China issues in a humane and constructive way. Chapters identify gaps in capacity for US-China engagement and seek to address them on campus, organizing events to engage the broader community in US-China bridge-building activities and provide meaningful service opportunities to connect with the community’s needs.
Chapter leaders join the national “Project Pengyou Leadership Network” and gain the opportunity to share learnings and participate in exclusive events and regular meetings with other young leaders across the nation.
NOT JUST A CULTURE CLUB:
Although culture is inevitably an element of Project Pengyou Chapter activities, our Chapters aspire to far more than passive learning. Project Pengyou Chapters and Leaders work to actively build bridges with a focus on the US-China relationship. Project Pengyou chapters develop content and activities that:
- Cultivate empathy and understanding between Americans and Chinese through shared stories and constructive dialogue.
- Encourage educational exchange that is nuanced and seeks common ground to build stronger intercultural relationships and friendships.
- Cultivate empathy and dialogue between the U.S. and China through academic talks, panels, and study abroad info sessions.
- Provide resources or international students and young professionals who want to pursue careers relating to U.S.-China relations.
Develop leadership of US-China bridge-builders - Chapter Leaders are expected to serve as grassroots organizers and leaders, and develop others in the chapter as leaders, thus building their capacity to grow and achieve Project Pengyou’s missions. All Project Pengyou Chapters are expected to support Project Pengyou’s National campaigns:
PROJECT PENGYOU SIGNATURE CAMPAIGNS:
- Pengyou Day – A day of massive action and grassroots events to promote US-China study, engagement, and friendship (The Thursday during the State Department’s International Education Week).
- Pay-it-forward on Chinese New Year (PIFOCNY) – Chapters adopt a local school to give back to the community.
