Of all the issues in the US-China bilateral relationship, it seems that climate change is one that the two countries can agree on. During the Paris Climate Agreement in December last year, the US and China were two of almost 195 countries whose leaders met at the summit to commit to reduce greenhouse gases and alleviate pollution around the globe.

Following the summit, both the US and China have shown leadership by pushing for early action, signing a joint presidential statement in March with bilateral commitments for early and constructive action to reduce greenhouse gas and spur the transition into more environmentally sustainable economies.

The official signing ceremony for the Paris agreement was held on Earth Day, April 22, at the United Nations headquarters. It is encouraging to see steps being taken by the US and China together to combat issues of global importance, and we hope this is a signal of more bilateral cooperation to come in the future!
