Residential Seminar at USC, 7/30-8/3: Exploring East Asian Visual Culture

The USC U.S. – China Institute and the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA) are offering a complimentary five-day residential summer seminar at USC for educators. Participants will have the option of commuting to USC and receiving a $250 stipend, or be housed near the USC campus. Breakfast, lunch, and parking will be provided.

The USC U.S. – China Institute and the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA) are offering a complimentary five-day residential summer seminar at USC for educators. Participants will have the option of commuting to USC and receiving a $250 stipend, or be housed near the USC campus. Breakfast, lunch, and parking will be provided. *Please note that you must live at least 30 miles away from campus to be eligible for the housing option.

This seminar will look at a variety of visual arts, including religious iconography, woodblock prints, political posters, music videos, film, and graphic novels. In addition to presentations, the seminar includes museum visits and optional outings to some of LA’s “Asia Towns.” Those completing all requirements are eligible for a stipend (if not housed by the program) and USC continuing education units (CEUs).

BENEFITS
  • $250 stipend for teachers who commute
  • 6 CEUs (equivalent to 2 LAUSD salary points) from USC Rossier School of Education, processing fee applicable
  • East Asia-focused resources and materials for classroom use

HOW TO APPLY

  • Step 1: Submit your application online.
  • Step 2: Email your resume to asiak12@usc.edu.
  • Step 3: Ask your school principal to confirm your teaching assignment for the upcoming academic year at asiak12@usc.edu
  • Step 4: Mail a refundable deposit check for $100, made payable to “University of Southern California,” to hold your registration; the check will be returned to you at the conclusion of the seminar should you not be accepted.
*Applicants will be notified within one week once all four items are received.
