China and Trumponomics: Navigating the New Abnormal

Event Details

Little wonder we’re confused about how Donald Trump will do business with China. Recently the new U.S. President had an unexpectedly “cordial” telephone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping, and committed to honoring the “One China policy” involving Taiwan. That’s quite a reversal, after Trump earlier accused Beijing of manipulating its currency and “raping” American business, and threatened to use the “One China” protocols as leverage in trade negotiations with Chinese officials.

In this RASBJ presentation, veteran business consultant, commentator and author James McGregor — freshly returned from a trip to Washington D.C. — will offer his views on the “new abnormal” in Sino-U.S. trade and business relations. James McGregor is Greater China Chairman for APCO Worldwide and author of two highly regarded books: No Ancient Wisdom, No Followers: The Challenges of Chinese Authoritarian Capitalism, and One Billion Customers: Lessons from the Front Lines of Doing Business in China.  He is a former China bureau chief for The Wall Street Journal and former CEO of Dow Jones China. Mr. McGregor is a consultant, writer, and professional speaker. In his nearly three decades in China, he has also been a venture capital investor, entrepreneur who founded a research company for hedge funds, and an advisor to many multinationals and start-up companies. McGregor is a former Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in China and currently is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Asia Society Global Council and National Committee on U.S.-China Relations. He currently splits his time between Shanghai, Beijing and Duluth.
