Leadership Fellows Christina Lu and Will Jockers Chapter-Building Efforts Build Momentum for US-China Exchange
Our Leadership Fellows, Christina Lu and Will Jockers from the State University at New York, Geneseo are quite the dynamic duo, and they recently captured the attention of their local news organization, the Lamron, for an interview about their Chapter-building efforts at SUNY Geneseo.
Using their knowledge of grassroots/community organizing and leadership learned during the Harvard Training Summit, Christina and Will plan to expand cultural awareness of China on campus. Their goal is to create a network through the Chapter that will encourage those that even have “an inkling” of wanting to study in China to come and learn about the opportunities available to them.
The pair are well on their way, with an almost solidified executive board and an already available exchange program through Sun-Yat-Sen University in Hong Kong, which would propel more students to travel to China and gain their own first-hand knowledge and experiences.
Aside from Christina’s bubbling optimism and Will’s quick wit and warmth, the two have extensive leadership experience and their own first-hand China knowledge, which we are excited for them to share with their community on Pengyou Day! Their idea is to share photographs and stories, thus encouraging other Geneseo students to go abroad and make their own memories.
As the Pengyou community is aware, relationships between people often have the most powerful impact. As Christina says:
“China is one of the most important countries in the world, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon, and neither is the U.S…To make that relationship between the two superpowers comes down to the people’s relationships.”The Geneseo duo is off to quite an impressive start! We’re excited to see what the future will bring for you two! Jiayou!
