What the heck is Smart Air?

Smart Air founder Thomas Talhelm was living in Beijing when the “airpocalypse” struck. He started worrying about what the air was doing to his health, so he decided to buy an air purifier, only to discover the purifier he wanted cost 10,000 RMB!

So Thomas set out to research how purifiers work, and he “re-discovered” the fact that most purifiers use HEPA filters to remove particulate pollution.

The weird part? HEPAs were invented in the 1940s! They’re simple and non-proprietary, so there’s no need for filters to cost thousands of RMB.

Thomas started Smart Air so that more people could get affordable clean air. From smartairfilters.com and smartair.taobao.com, he’s shipped his simple solution to over 15,000 people all over China.

Smart Air’s simple solution has been covered in media outlets from CNN and the Guardian to Bloomberg Business and the China Daily.
