6th Annual Bohai or Bust Charity Bike Event

The sixth Annual Bohai or Bust will be held Saturday 18 April 2015. The Schoolhouse is excited to present our 6th annual Bohai or Bust Charity Bike Ride event. We will be providing a wonderful location with self-guided bike routes throughout the beautiful countryside of Bohai Township. We will have three routes of 12 km (kid friendly), 24 km and 80 km (maps coming soon).

This year’s Festival will take place at the Brickyard Retreat at Mutianyu Great Wall. You arrive and begin your journey at our designated starting point at the Brickyard and meet back there when finished. After the ride you will be able to enjoy locally grown, prepared and catered food, a live band, an auction and a lucky draw. This year we will also have onsite changing rooms.
New for this year, we have a special kid friendly route through the villages that includes stops at a fish farm and beekeeper. We plan to have volunteers that can translate as needed.

Event Schedule

7:30 Meet at Star City Mansion (near 798) (click here for map) / pack trucks / bus – leave by 08:00 Sharp!
09:30 Riders arrive at Brickyard Retreat (via bus or personal car), get bikes and depart at leisure
10:00 Riders depart at leisure
12:00 Catering begins at the Brickyard Retreat
14:30 Catering Ends, All Riders have returned – Greetings, Lucky Draw/Auction
15:00-15:30 Load Bikes and People, Depart
17:30 Buses Arrive back at Star City Mansion

Please Note: This year riders bringing their own bicycles will have to drop them off Friday 17 April at Bicycle Kingdom. See below for more info.

Why We Do This

The purpose of this charity event is to raise money for the Elderly of the villages of Bohai Township, who have helped this area to grow. Those living outside Mutianyu Village particularly struggle with no tourism revenue, left behind by the young. From 2010-2014 Bohai or Bust has raised a total of Rmb 113,785.50. This year the presentation of proceeds will occur during the Chong Yang Jie (Elder’s Day), a traditional Chinese holiday which celebrates the elderly.

Registration and Payment

Registration is done online through yoopay.cn which makes it easy and accessible to anyone who plans on attending the event; 100% of proceeds are donated to the elderly of Bohai Township.The Registration fee covers the following: a Bohai or Bust T-shirt, a buffet meal of locally catered food and entry in our lucky draw.If you want to rent a bicycle, you must do it ahead of time, click on the link below. Registration Fees are categorized as follows:

   a) Only Registration Fee paid in advance online, Rmb 176 Adults; Rmb 126 Child/University (under 18 and/or university students w/ID) b) Only Registration Fee paid onsite, you will drive yourself to the Brickyard Retreat Rmb 200 Adults; Rmb 150 Child/University (under 18 and/or university students w/ID)
   For people who do not register in advance we may have space available on the event day for registration only but cannot guarantee.c) Round-trip bus service from Star City Mansion (near 798 Art District, within walking distance of Line 14) to Bohai or Bust, Rmb 50

   Bicycle
   The event features “bring your own bike or rent a bike” ! This year we have teamed up with Bicycle Kingdom, our Bicycle Rental Partner, to offer you the option to take your own bike or rent one, for a fee.But, please be aware you need to make bike arrangements ahead of time and riders will be asked to sign a waiver.Please Note: Due to new Beijing traffic regulations your personal bicycle and/or your rental bicycle will go up before you and come back after you. On the day of the ride, just show up at Star City Mansion and hop on the bus. Click on this link to rent a bicycle or take your own.
