Please join us for the next session of Young China Watchers on Thursday, November 6, featuring an evening with Jacob Young. Jacob Young is an Executive Director at Goldman Sachs, and he will be speaking about BRICS Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank: A New Multilateral System Centered Around China? Jacob will speak for around 20 minutes, followed by a brief Q&A.
China is leading the charge among emerging markets to create new multilateral financial institutions alongside the World Bank and IMF. 21 countries recently signed a memorandum of understanding in Beijing to create an Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, following an announcement earlier this year of a “BRICS bank” to be headquartered in Shanghai. While this is an opportunity to catalyze desperately needed infrastructure investment in developing countries, it is also seen as a threat in some western capitals and it remains unclear how these newcomers will be integrated into the existing multilateral framework.
Jacob is the Asia head for Goldman Sachs sovereign risk management & advisory. Prior to Goldman Sachs, he worked in the Office of Risk Management of the Asian Development Bank. He has also worked at the Board Secretariat of the International Monetary Fund and for the World Bank in Washington DC. Jacob has an MA in International Economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and is a CFA Charter holder.
Given there is no charge for attendance, we strongly encourage people to eat and drink heartily, as a favor to our kind hosts who have provided us with the private space at Bar Six, located on the 6th Floor of Parekh House, 63 Wyndham Street, Central.
