In 2015, China announced a record volume of outbound mergers and acquisitions (M&A), in excess of US$ 100bn for the first time. For Q1 2016, China became the world’s largest acquirer in terms of value of announced deals (US$ 92bn) accounting for 30% of the world total, headlined by the high profile ChemChina- Syngenta bid for US$ 42bn. With the back drop of a slowing economy in China and volatile global capital markets, will this momentum continue or is this a one-off?
