Confucius is perhaps the most important philosopher in history. His teachings shape the daily lives of more than 1.6 billion people throughout East Asia and influence everything from business practices and family relationships to educational standards and government policies. In his newly released book, Confucius: And the World He Created (Basic Books, 2015), journalist and author Michael Schuman demonstrates it is impossible for the West to understand China and contend with its rise on the world stage without first engaging with Confucius and his vast legacy.
Michael Schuman has been a correspondent in Asia for 19 years. He has written for TIME magazine and The Wall Street Journal. He is also author of the book, The Miracle: The Epic Story of Asia’s Quest for Wealth (HarperBusiness, 2009). A limited number of copies of Confucius: And the World He Created will be available for purchase at this talk.
