Shanghai is endowed with a rich and varied heritage of Art Deco and Modernist structures, which are a treat for urban architecture geeks. In his presentation author Francesco Cosentino, a cultural-anthropologist, sinologist as well as veteran China resident, embarks on a citywide promenade to show us some of the most interesting buildings belonging to the roaring 1920s and ‘30s, illustrated from his own archive of photographs. The selection is taken from his book “Shanghai from Modernism to Modernity”, which is an investigation into the ongoing relationship between the city’s history and its architecture, from its recent past to its future in the offing, as well as an introduction to the major personalities who contributed to such developments.
Advanced registration is not required.
