            Boston University is seeking a Program Coordinator to manage student life activities for the Boston University Shanghai Program at Fudan University. This is a full-time, year-round position located in Shanghai, China.  It requires fluency in both Chinese and English, as well as knowledge of and experience in the American and Chinese university systems and the field of international education.

            Reporting to the Resident Director of Boston University Study Abroad Shanghai, the program coordinator manages the program’s nonacademic work in the area of student life.  This work includes planning, arranging, participating in, and managing student activities and excursions on campus, within Shanghai, and throughout China.  The program coordinator also plans orientation, farewell, and other student events and offers administrative support to the program, such as the preparation of materials and information for distribution to students and updates to the program webpage.  He or she is required to regularly interact with students and be a resource to them for solving problems they can encounter while studying abroad.  The successful applicant will also have the ability to work with budgets for funds related to student and program activities, the communication skills necessary to represent the program effectively to all on-site visitors, and be able to liaise with university staff and other members of the community in China and Boston.   

            The preferred applicant will have an M.A. degree in a related field.  The candidate should have knowledge of both the Chinese and American educational systems gained through experience in international exchanges.  Fluency in English and Chinese is essential.  Excellent communication and organizational skills in a challenging cross-cultural environment are necessary, as is the ability to work cooperatively with administrators, students, faculty, and staff in Shanghai and Boston; the ability to communicate professionally and clearly in writing and orally; the proven ability to manage students and projects effectively; and the ability to exercise sound judgment and appropriate response in emergency situations.  Knowledge of Shanghai and the current internet media and communication technology is helpful. 

            Dependent on qualifications, the program coordinator may have the opportunity to teach a course for the program, such as an internship seminar or a class in the candidate’s field of expertise.
