Overview
Job Description
The Beijing Center (TBC) is a not-for-profit center of higher education and research in mainland China committed to fostering mutual understanding between China and other cultures through cultural exchange, education, and research. What makes us unique is our placement in a long and storied tradition of Jesuit education, one that teaches us that true cultural engagement starts first with friendship.
Currently, The Beijing Center is hiring interns in the following departments: Academics and Administration, ChinaContact, Career Ventures, Marketing and Communications, Anton Library, Human Resources, and Student Development. Detailed job descriptions of each position are listed below:
1. Academics and Administration Intern
Job Description:
-
Assist to draft academic documents and announcements
-
Being trainer of trainee, tracking timesheets, report monthly to supervisor
-
Maintain academic archives by scanning documents and uploading them to Sharepoint (training can be provided)
-
Coordinate with TBC Anton library intern to make sure that classrooms are opened before class sessions and closed after classes, especially for evening sessions
-
Get familiar with classroom facilities and assist faculty when needed
-
Maintain confidentiality of departmental information
-
Communicate and cooperate efficiently and effectively with supervisor and TBC staff
2. ChinaContact Intern
About ChinaContact
ChinaContact was established in 2002 to facilitate short-term, credit or non-credit, tailor-made Chinese study programs for a wide audience. By combining lectures, field trips and interaction with the Chinese community, ChinaContact program enables a comprehensive study of China’s history, culture, society, politics, and economy. Programs are themed on doing business, social justice, religions, environment, ethnic studies and so on, lasting from three days to six weeks. For each program, ChinaContact’s service includes lectures, cultural and corporate site visits, interprovincial excursions, and logistical arrangements such as classroom and library space, housing, transportation, and meals. ChinaContact also enables groups withindependently arranged lectures and activities to execute their programs, while ChinaContact plays a supplementary role in academics and logistics.
Job Description:

Assist in logistic support to groups

Lead or accompany groups to cultural, historical and professional sites in and out of Beijing

Contact business companies for group visits

Keep good records on group expenses

Serve as liaison between ChinaContact and UIBE students to organize group activities

3. Marketing and Communications Intern
Job Description:

Assist in the creation, maintenance, and growth of TBC’s public WeChat account; helping the team with Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn accounts
-
Takes pictures and videos of TBC-sponsored student activities to be developed into content for socialmedia platforms and blog posts
-
Creation and updates to marketing materials using Adobe Creative Suite (print materials, infographics, branded merchandise) -training available
-
Assist with video production (shooting, editing, etc) -training available
-
Work with local print and merchandise companies
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with graphic design, layout, photography, videography or electronic media

Experience with WeChat public accounts preferred

4. Anton Library Intern
Job Description:
Book Circulation

Check in/out books, catalog new books into the system

Help readers search and find books
Guide

Introduce the book collections and antiques in the Anton Library to guests/visiting scholars
Facilities Management

Help TBC faculty and students using library and classroom facilities

Timely report status of IT facilities including photocopy machines, computers and classroom facilities, etc

5. Event Planning and Career Ventures Intern
Job Description:
Event Planning

Assist in promotion of all events and activities, including creating and distributing invitations, press releases, and social media campaigns

Assisting development of scripts, agendas, timelines, PowerPoint presentations, sitemaps and research
-
Assisting organization and execution of event logistics
-
Assisting updating of event online presence including website and social media
-
Other duties as assigned.
Career Ventures
-
Assist in creating a host organization handbook
-
Search for events appropriate for TBC students and post them on group chats
-
Schedule online webinars
-
Make trips to host organization sites
-
Attend events and present TBC on stage

Read students’ weekly blogs

Assist students in poster creation

6. Student Development Intern
Job Description:

Support and work closely with TBC semester international students with issues of cultural adjustmentand transition into China
-
Organize, participate, and lead Student Development cultural and historical site visits
-
Learn and utilize technologies including Salesforce, and Outlook Office 365 online filing system (noprior experience is required, and training provided)
-
Oversee Student Development email account and respond to questions and inquiries in a timely manner
-
Assisting the management of facilities and equipment
Required Qualifications:

7. Human Resources and Operations Intern
-
Maintain existing recruitment channels and open up new recruitment channels
-
Update relevant recruitment information and analyze data
-
Stay close to the TBC recruitment plan, complete the work related to JD, and coordinate the communication with interviewers and candidates
-
Responsible for follow-up interview scheduling and feedback
-
Assist in the online data entry and maintenance of the human resources management system
-
Create and maintain a friendly, respectful, and accepting atmosphere at TBC
-
Provide excellent customer service and maintain professionalism
-
Maintain confidentiality of departmental information
-
Experience with relevant HR department

Quick learner who asks questions and is eager to grow

About TBC
Established in 1998, TBC hosts students and scholars to study the Chinese language, culture, and all things China in China. Since 2002, TBC’s local partner has been the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE). For the accreditation of our semester courses, TBC partnered with Loyola Marymount College in Los Angeles 1998-2005 and with Loyola University Chicago beginning in 2006.
Since 2006, there have been 1654 students who have studied at TBC for the semester program and approximately 200-300 per year coming to TBC with short-term faculty-led programs from North America, Latin America, Australasia, and Europe.
TBC maintains a research library with over 25,000 volumes in English, including rare books and maps, and hosts conferences, guest lectures, and seminars. Considered to be the largest English language library about China in China, TBC has hosted numerous scholars from China and worldwide to assist with their research.
2018 marks the 20th anniversary of The Beijing Center in China and we look forward to the next 20 years of TBC developing and continuing our mission of inter-cultural educational exchange and friendship in China.
