Schwarzman Scholars seeks an Academic Officer to support the NY based Director of Academic
Programs, as well as the Foundation team.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the academic team, which is based in both Beijing and New
York. This NY based position will assist in the recruitment of global faculty members, as well as
supporting the refinement of the course curriculum and overall academic program for Schwarzman
College (SC). The Academic Officer will assist in cultivating recruiting relationships with the world’s
leading universities, colleges, and networks of scholars and academics. S/he will implement high-level
outreach events and generate new ideas for sources of faculty. S/he will help manage faculty
relationships, governance, communications, and pedagogical initiatives throughout the academic year.
S/he will help manage goal-oriented and thorough curriculum reviews to ensure a world-class education
for the next generation of global leaders. S/he will work with the Academic Director and team to provide
scholastic resources and events, such as high-profile lectures, to supplement the annual academic
program.

Overview

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

• Coordinate and manage regular outreach to faculty in collaboration with SC academic team.

• Liaison for faculty profiles and publications to Schwarzman Scholars website and PR.

• Other faculty community building efforts as needed in collaboration with SC academic team.

• Target institutional outreach for named chair searches.

• Support search process overall including dossier preparation and communications.

• Identification of candidates for outreach for visiting faculty.

• Outreach to universities and faculty related to curriculum gaps and new areas of study.

• Research and summaries on academic programs of interest.

• Manage curriculum revision committee logistics and materials distribution.

• Support for development of Beijing based activities and workshops.

• Materials preparation in coordination with SC academic team on events and logistics.

• Support development of book lists, ordering, and shipping of books to library and cataloguing efforts in collaboration with SC research librarian.

• Work with faculty on book donations.

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree helpful.

• Two years of related work experience, preferably tied directly to university administration or faculty management.

• Experience living or working overseas, preferably in China, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong written and oral communication skills.

• Strong working knowledge of the higher education landscape and university environments and practices.

• Ability to build and maintain effective relationships.

• Ability to maintain compliance with guidelines, policies and procedures.

• Cross-cultural skills and proven ability to work effectively across different world regions.

• High level of integrity and accountability; ability to exercise discretion on confidential matters and communicate with tact and diplomacy.

• Strong organizational, planning, and scheduling skills with demonstrated ability to execute multiple projects on time and on budget.

• Professionalism, maturity, and the ability to use diplomacy in difficult situations.

• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills. Ability to interact with all levels of staff and external contacts.
