Reporting to the Director of International Education Programs and consistent with the mandate and goals of UCR Extension as a self-supporting department, the Associate Director of International Education Programs is part of a collaborative model for the promotion and academic and administrative leadership of IEP and its programs.

With a demonstrated commitment to continuing education, academic excellence and a creative vision for entrepreneurial initiatives, the Associate Director provides exceptional leadership and knowledge in international education, curricular and instructional areas, strategic planning, program development and management, global marketing and international student recruitment.

The Associate Director possesses the professional and personal skills to ensure the quality and success of current and potential self-supporting programs through a demonstrated ability to lead, challenge, inspire and motivate a team of dedicated professionals who teach and support programs delivered in Riverside, California and around the world.

The Associate Director shares the academic and program leadership for IEP, directly overseeing several IEP units, supervising 3 managers and 3 administrative staff, ensuring course and service delivery for a complex, multi-functional organization. The Associate Director is the executive manager for the English as a Second Language (ESL) and TESOL programs, supervises 3 academic program coordinators and 20 instructors, recommending and leading curricular and programmatic change to ensure the highest continuing level of standard for program delivery in intensive English programs, teacher training programs, custom programs, concurrent enrollment and pathway programs.

The Associate Director also serves as the primary academic and institutional contact with international sponsorship or scholarship organizations, ministries of education, and ministries of higher education and is a driving force behind international marketing and student recruitment, maintaining knowledge of market demands abroad, planning and executing international marketing trips, cultivating relationships with international partners and fulfilling commitments through high-quality customer service and program delivery.

Requirements

Minimum of 9 years of related experience. 

Record of success marketing to international students and brokering relationships with agents, counselors, government officials, and secondary and tertiary institutions with a varied of education needs and budgets. Experience working with staff, faculty and international partners in order to establish and implement strategic plans and communication institutional directives and organizational changes. Demonstrated skill in developing new program and business opportunities.  

Progressively responsible experience in the fields of international education, business administration, international marketing, cross-cultural communication or teaching English as a second or foreign language at the college/university level. Record of experience managing international programs in a fast-paced, multicultural, complex program environment. Experience overseeing financial and business operations and supervising professional administrative and instructional employees.  

Record of experience working with diverse communities. Demonstrated interpersonal and intercultural skills in an international education or higher education setting. Experience working with a diverse population of instructors, international students and stakeholders, university personnel and senior college administration.  

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in ESL teaching, curriculum design, testing and evaluation preferred. Demonstrated record of content, course, and program development and experience delivering academic programs that meet quality assurance standards preferred.  

Ability to travel nationally and internationally required.
