The Contemporary Issues Program (CIP) is designed for undergraduates with varying levels of Chinese language proficiency. The program is taught using a “modular” schedule in which students choose a single course for a 3.5-week module. Instructors teach 15-16 class over a 3.5 week period. Each class meets in the morning for 2.5 hours. This schedule is ideal for researchers or other academics with commitments that prevent them from committing to teaching a course for an entire 16-week semester.

Currently, we seek qualified instructors in the following areas:

• Government and Politics in China
• Modern Chinese Economy
• International Relations of China
• Environmental Policy and Environmental Issues in China
• Urbanization and Urban Society in China
• Youth Culture in China
• Modern Chinese Literature/Gender & Sexuality in Modern Chinese Literature

Compensation

Compensation will be a stipend commensurate with the scholar’s academic status and teaching experience. In addition, for instructors teaching in the Contemporary Issues Program (CIP) and who are outside of Beijing, the Beijing Center will provide round-trip transportation to Beijing and housing during the term of instruction.

Qualifications and Application Submission

Candidates with a doctorate degree, advanced doctoral candidates, or those with a graduate degree and substantial experience in the field and prior teaching experience will be considered. Applicants should send a C.V. and the names and contact information for two academic references who can address the applicant’s teaching experience. A brief description of teaching methods the instructor has found to be successful with advanced undergraduate students is also helpful.
