Job Description

  • Translate contents from English to Chinese (or vice versa) for different projects, including but not limited to subjects related to Emissions Trading Systems (ETSs), Green Supply Chain, Energy Policies, and Chinese environmental and economic policies and initiatives.

  • Create periodic news update on China’s national carbon market policies, as well as other energy and environment-related development.

  • Help executive ad-hoc research projects related to China’s environmental development and international climate policies.

  • Help gather data and information from both English and Chinese publications as required.

  • Provide administrative support to team members as required such as note-taking, event preparation, etc.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Must be well organized, motivated, and detail-oriented.

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work in a team setting and have the ability to work independently when projects are due.

  • Demonstrate initiative and problem solving skills.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Competencies

  • Fluent (speaking, reading and writing) in both Mandarin and English

  • Well-organized, motivated, and detailed oriented;

  • Demonstrated ability to translate professional contents between English and Chinese;

  • general knowledge about China’s environmental issues, climate change policies, and proposed instruments for environmental management (e.g. ETS, green supply chain, etc.)

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work

This position is a full-time position with the possibility of part-time option based on mutual agreement.

Travel

  • 5% or less of travel is expected for this position.

Required Education And Experience

  • Exceptional personal organization and attention to detail.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to work with colleagues and partners of varied backgrounds and experience.

  • Proficiency in the use of PCs and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)

  • An undergraduate degree is required.

Preferred Education And Experience

  • Interest in environmental advocacy;

  • Strong interest in learning about US-China environmental development;

  • Professionally trained in English and Mandarin Chinese interpretation or translation is a strong plus;

  • Completed coursework in environmental studies, economics, social sciences, or international policies preferred;

  • A master’s degree or currently pursuing a master’s degree.
