Job Description

Summary:

The Director of International Students (China) plays a critical role in recruiting, admitting, welcoming, supporting and working with international students who enroll at Servite High School. He/she will collaborate with Servite admissions, counseling, faculty, administration and the Cambridge Institute to develop educational strategies and other support services that ensure the success of all students who participate in this program.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide integral support for English language learning and Western culture assimilation.
  • Work with admissions to recruit, screen, interview, and accept potential international candidates for admittance into Servite.
  • Travel to recruitment events both domestic and abroad (China trips to be held annually)
  • Support the Servite Formation Program: Full support of Servite Formation Program is essential; must possess a willingness to grow in knowledge and understanding of program’s purpose, goals, and objectives under guidance of Director of Formation.
  • Collaborate with Other International Programs: Collaborate with incoming international students program, International Servite Schools Network (ISSN), and other various travel and exchange experiences across campus.
  • Collaborate with Theology Department to develop and implement a Theology course, which introduces Catholicism to international students and prepares them to be mainstreamed in Theology 3 and 4.
  • Develop summer immersion and language program(s) for current and prospective international students.
  • Work closely with placement agency and host families to ensure that international students live in a supportive home environment that meets their physical, emotional and social needs
  • Work closely with counseling staff to ensure that international students’ academic needs are being met.
  • Provide language support and translation services for departments across campus.
  • Collaborate with teachers and counselors to support the needs of international students



Other Responsibilities:

  • Utilize professional development opportunities (e.g. technology, instruction, classroom management and assessment) and work towards implementing new knowledge and skills into teaching repertoire.
  • Develop and maintain a classroom/work environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by Servite High School.
  • Assisting pupils and administrators to set, establish, and maintain acceptable school and classroom/work place behavior and standards
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect pupils, equipment, materials and school plant.
  • Return parent phone calls and/or emails within 48 hours.
  • Provide for continuous evaluation of pupil progress (post grades weekly) consistent with teacher, school and Servite established instructional objectives, goals, and policy.
  • Maintain accurate and correct records as required by law, Servite policy and Administration Regulations.
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules (the student handbook and administrative regulations.
  • Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  • Make himself/herself available for educational services when required or when requested by the principal or designee.
  • Provide professional input by attending and participating in called meetings. Adequate advance notice will be given.
  • Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning instructional objectives and goals for pupils.
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials within the school or department.
  • Accept assignment (reasonable share of other duties) required to be performed by administration and department chairperson within the school or department.
  • Supervise students in those areas where assigned by the school.
  • Perform other job related duties as required to assure the education, safety, health, and security of students and employees.
  • Conduct prayer reverently, and by example, secure respect for this obligation.
  • Attend the following required school events: Faculty Orientation Programs, Back to School Night, Open House, Diocese of Orange In-service days, Servite High School In-service days, Faculty/Staff retreats, Christmas luncheon, End of Year luncheon, Monthly Faculty meetings. Department meetings, All Hands meetings and Lunch duty as assigned. Faculty members are also required to attend other events and functions determined by the Administration.
  • Perform all assignments in a professional, ethical and consistent manner.
  • Meet and instruct those classes and pupils assigned in the location and at the time designated.
  • Cooperate with conditions and requirements of the Formation and Technology Programs.
  • Develop, implement and maintain learning objectives supported by curriculum maps, pacing guides and benchmark assessments.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned



Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum:
    • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year College or University
    • Oral and Written fluency in the Chinese Language and Culture (Mandarin)
    • Experience teaching English to English Language Learners
    • Knowledge of traditions and doctrines of Roman Catholic Church
    • Knowledge of and contacts within China
    • Knowledge of relevant technology
    • Experience with I-20’s
  • Preferred:
    • ESL Certification
    • Established professional network in China
    • Experience in TOEFEL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) preparation
    • Experience in SLEP (Secondary Level English Proficiency)
