Summary: We are looking for a national Education Officer to provide support to the quality basic education programme, particularly the child friendly schools aspects.
While the focus of the UNICEF-MoE Child-Friendly Schools (CFS) was initially on teacher training as an ‘entry point’ to CFS, the emphasis of CFS shifted to a more comprehensive approach since then on to include these specific interventions during the current programme cycle 2016-2020: a) to create a social emotional learning supportive environment/climates in schools; b) to improve classroom teaching and learning c) to improve the whole school environment especially focusing on WASH; d) to promote physical education and sports activities for children in schools; and e) to form the partnership of school and families to enlarge the supportive educational environment to enable overall child friendliness inside and outside schools, and these have been implemented in 250 rural schools across five western provinces in especially rural areas. It aims to have working models of what a comprehensive CFS programme would include, and at the same time would work towards providing evidence that a child friendly school can make a significant difference to rural children’s learning and development.

How can you make a difference?
UNICEF works with the Government of China to improve the quality of education across the country. We are now looking for a new stellar staff member to join our team to provide support to the quality basic education programme, specifically, the child friendly school aspects. The incumbent will work with a number of colleagues and partners to:
• Support the management and monitoring of child friendly schools programme (CFS). This includes a focus on teaching and learning, social and emotional learning, sports and physical education, and WASH in schools
• Provide technical support to a large scale CFS impact study which is currently underway
• Monitor the implementation status of supplies, cash assistance and contracts to implementation partners to ensure proper and timely use of UNICEF supplies and funds
• Prepare donor reports and proposals, facilitate donor visits, provide inputs for presentations and discussions, and offer other quality donor services
• Manage and provide technical support for monitoring and evaluation (M&E), update documentation (particularly for the website), and coordinate research activities
To qualify, you will have…
• Master’s level university degree in Education or related discipline; Master’s in Education an advantage.
• Demonstrated expertise in conducting research and research skills
• Minimum two years of professional experience in education programme implementation, administration, or monitoring and evaluation
• Expertise in teaching and learning and training experience an advantage
• Knowledge and background in child friendly schools and basic education is an advantage
• Knowledge, understanding and interest in education and development issues, and policies in China and internationally
• Experience in the development sector is an advantage
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Strong organisational skills to promote smooth project management
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Fluency in English and Mandarin, both written and spoken
