Job Description

Americans Promoting Study Abroad (APSA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing scholarship opportunities to young Americans to study in China. APSA is currently seeking skilled and energetic facilitators for our Shanghai summer program.

APSA Facilitators participate in all aspects of the program including excursions and community service activities to guide, empower, and encourage students to own their experience and growth in China. 

General Responsibilities 

  • Support pre-program processes and participate in a comprehensive staff -training workshop 
  • Participate in program preparation meetings 
  • Live alongside students – Facilitators are responsible for students around the clock throughout the duration of the program 
  • Facilitate hands-on cultural activities that encourage students to navigate China’s history, culture and society 
  • Facilitate team building, community development and career exploration projects 
  • Guide personal reflection, debriefing discussions, goal-setting and action-planning 
  • activities 
  • Follow and maintain APSA rules and standards 
  • Mediate conflict and offer mentorship to students as needed 
  • Provide constructive feedback for future program development 


Minimum Qualifications 

  • Fluency in English, proficiency in Mandarin 
  • Knowledge of China and Chinese culture
  • Current resident of China with experience living in Shanghai 
  • Strong leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to effectively interact with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds 
  • Experience working with youth 

Duration 

The APSA Facilitator position is a short term contract position held from July 3 to 

August 22, 2014. 

Compensation 

Salary & compensation will commensurate with experience and qualifications
