Job Description

Call for International Experiential Educators for Summer and Semester Programs in China

The leader in cross-cultural education, fostering global citizenship, self-exploration, and leadership since 1993.

Where There Be Dragons is currently accepting applications for field instructors in China. Positions include 6-8 week summer commitments (training in the US beginning June 13th + international program) and fall and spring semester programs for cross-cultural experiential education programs.

Applicants should have a well-demonstrated dedication, passion, skill set, and in-depth understanding of China. We empower our instructor teams to use their own in-country resources, contacts, and relationships.  We know that the creativity and vision of our instructors makes Dragons programs the most unique and highest-quality learning experiences in the field of international experiential education.

Dragons instructors set the industry standard: They are committed educators who are intent on facilitating deep personal learning, reflection, and growth through meaningful cross-cultural experiences. When not guiding with Dragons, our instructors are graduate students, returned Peace Corps Volunteers, U.N. development professionals, veteran guides, and career teachers – all of whom share a passion for exploration, adventure, and hands-on learning through authentic, low-impact travel experiences.

While we don’t expect that every applicant will meet all of these criteria, the ideal candidate will:

  • Demonstrate unique in-country experience, regional fluency and strong contacts/relationships in any of the countries where we run programs (please speak to this in your application)
  • Demonstrate strong Chinese language skills.
  • Demonstrate experience leading groups and/or working with adolescents.
  • Demonstrate a dedication to the field of teaching and ability to educate the whole student.
  • Exhibit significant experience in a relevant field (i.e. education, guiding, development work, service learning, wilderness, non-profit sector, etc).
  • Possess a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician WEMT) certification.
  • Have an understanding of risk management and navigation of challenging environments within the developing world.
  • Be capable of instructing a safe, educational, dynamic, and engaging course.
