Who is Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI)

GGGI is headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, started by South Korean President Lee Myung Bak in 2010, and became an international organization in 2012 at Rio+20. GGGI is dedicated to developing and diffusing green growth. GGGI is dedicated to supporting developing and emerging countries in demonstrating new pathways to climate resilient and pro-poor economic growth that simultaneously targets transformational aspects of economic performance, social inclusion and environmental sustainability.

Why be an intern at GGGI?

If you are thinking of entering the world of international organizations and green growth, an internship at the GGGI could be the ideal start for you. The objective of the internship is to give you a first-hand experience of the day-to-day working at GGGI.
You will be given an opportunity to work directly with outstanding and inspiring Green Growth professionals, participate in workshops and meetings, and contribute to analytical work as well as innovative rethinking on sustainable green growth. Interns will be selected based on merit and cannot be children or siblings of current GGGI staff members.

Can you be a GGGI intern?

  • Are you enrolled in a Master’s or in a Ph.D. program, or in the final year of a Bachelor’s program?

  • Have you completed Bachelor’s, Masters or PHD Degree in last 12 months?

  • Are you between a first degree and graduate school (gap year)?

  • Do you have excellent command of English?

Things to keep in mind for interns:

  • Duration: The internship program lasts for at least three months and can be as long as six months. Once selected, interns must begin your internship either prior to or within 12 months of graduation.

  • Cost: GGGI interns are paid USD$500 per month. All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns or their sponsoring institutions.

  • Visa: GGGI will provide a supporting letter for visa. Interns will be responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas.

  • Travel: Intern will arrange and finance their travel to the internship location.

  • Medical insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI.

  • Confidentiality: Interns must be discreet and keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.

  • Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy for internships.

    Job Description for GGGI China Interns (2017)

    Qualifications:

  • Masters degree candidate or above from a top-tier university or academic program.

  • Native English speaker with excellent drafting, proofreading, policy research skills.

  • Chinese reading, writing, and speaking ability desired.

  • Knowledge in green city, green development, carbon financing, environmental policy, or

    other related areas; experience working in a developing country is valuable.

  • 2-5 years of work experience in international business or policy at a recognized company

    or organization.

  • Strong disciplined self-starter, who is driven and is able to make off-hour contributions

    due to the nature of government work and timetables;

Preferably has experience on greening China’s South-South Cooperation and Belt and Road initiative.
Potential Deliverables:

  1. Support deliverables and implementation of regional, multilateral and bilateral joint policy recommendation reports, and proofing/additional analytical work associated;

  2. Support implementation of events (international and domestic);

  3. Support deliverables and implementation of climate change training program under

    the National Development and Reform Commission’s 10-100-1000 program, including coordination with government, academic and private sector stakeholders from developing countries.

  4. Support drafting policy recommendations associated with China’s overseas investments with China’s Ministry of Commerce and NDRC’s Energy Research Institute.

  5. Support drafting of grant applications, resource mobilization efforts and project term agreements relating international organizations and governments;

  6. Support note-taking and representation at relevant climate change events, requiring GGGI participation.
