Job Description

IES Internships, a unit of IES Abroad, offers full-time, unpaid, international and domestic summer internships for college students and recent graduates.

IES Internships works directly with students and graduates, matching each with an employer best suited to the student’s career and academic goals. Staff in each city serves as a link between companies and organizations searching for U.S.-based interns, and is on hand to advise and offer support to IES Interns.

To enroll in a guaranteed unpaid, full-time summer internship program, please follow these six steps:

  1. Review the types of industries and locations we offer to determine where you want to go and what type of internship to have.
  2. Apply online.
  3. Once accepted, speak with your advisor to discuss your internship and career goals. This helps us find the optimal placement for you.
  4. Prepare your résumé and develop your interviewing skills with help from IES Internships.
  5. Interview with your potential placement company via Skype or phone.
  6. IES Internships consults with you and the company after the interview. When both you and the company are satisfied, an agreement is sent to the company to secure your internship placement (you will sign the agreement, as well).

In addition to your internship, you will also enroll in a required internship seminar for 1 or 6 credits. The 1-credit course has four online modules and four class meetings on-site. The 6-credit course has five online modules and meets twice per week on-site.

The seminar will cover topics such as:

  •   Résumé Writing & Interview Coaching
  •   Communicating Across Cultures
  •   Global Leadership Competencies
  •   Building Trust & Teamwork

  •   Conflict Negotiation & Mediation
  •   Stereotypes & Cultural Differences
