Founded in 2006, the Brookings-Tsinghua Center for Public Policy (BTC) is a unique partnership between China’s Tsinghua University and The Brookings Institution’s John L. Thornton China Center in Washington, DC. It is a leading think tank in China that produces high quality and high impact policy research in areas of fundamental importance for Chinese society and for better US-China relations. In addition, it serves as a significant platform for US-China dialogues on a number of important topics, bringing together researchers and policy makers to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation.

BTC is currently seeking applicants for Fall 2014 Internships to assist BTC staff with various functions. Semester interns are expected to devote at least 12 hours per week to BTC, but alternative schedules will be considered. Please note that all interns are unpaid. Fall semester internships generally run from September to December.

Responsibilities

Daily tasks include: providing research assistance to Director and non-resident fellows, providing logistic support for event planning, tracking event attendees and preparing event materials, compiling and updating media and contact lists, providing administrative support for BTC staff or fellows as needed, assist in managing BTC’s social media account, translation, and transcribing speeches from audio recordings

Qualifications

Qualified applicants will have a demonstrated interest in all or some of the following areas: communications, climate change, clean energy, urbanization, public policy, economics, international relations, and development issues.

Experience with event and conference organization preferred; excellent written and oral communication skills both in English and in Chinese; detail-oriented and the ability to efficiently multitask with minimal supervision; and advanced Microsoft Office skills and familiarity with the use of electronic media.

Current undergraduate (seniors preferred) or graduate students in a relevant field (i.e. international relations, China studies, etc.) are encouraged to apply.
