Established in 1998, TBC is a not-for-profit higher education center in China, sponsored by the Jesuit universities of the United States. Since 2002, TBC has been located on the campus of the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing. With a robust academic program accredited through Loyola University Chicago, TBC provides a unique environment and platform for students from the U.S. and from all over the world to engage with China.

TBC offers a semester study abroad program every Fall and Spring, including an internship option. Commencing in Summer 2017, TBC will also offer a summer internships program.
TBC’s internship program is expanding, and fast becoming a ‘pillar’ experience for its students and is designed to supplement and enhance their classroom learning through exposure to a real-life work environment.

Job Description

About the Role Working with the Director of Academics, Faculty and Research, the Internships Coordinator is a newly created role at TBC. The Coordinator will be a key member of TBC’s Academics department, working with a high degree of autonomy to place TBC students as interns into local Beijing businesses and organizations. As TBC expands its internship program in 2017 and beyond, a key aspect of the role will be developing and implementing a strategy for the sustainable increase in the quantity and range of internship partner businesses and organizations: creatively and relationship building skills will be vital.

Key Responsibilities

 Research, develop and monitor internship sites/work placements for TBC students at organizations and businesses in Beijing

 To work directly with businesses and organizations to help them understand the benefits of a TBC intern and to educate them on their responsibilities in regards to placement

 Place internship program applicants into appropriate work sites for the Fall, Spring and Summer intakes

 Assist with arrival and orientation of interns, introducing them to their work site, and providing follow-up and advice

 Primary responsibility for developing and implementing a professional-development focused co-curricular program for Internship students in all semester intakes

 Ensure a high level of accuracy in updating and maintaining intern and site databases

 Assist other departments in busy periods, and assist with TBC events, as required

 Take responsibility for an emergency phone service outside of office hours for approximately 1-2 weeks each semester (training provided)

Selection Criteria

Essential:

 Bachelor’s degree and demonstrated fluency in English (Chinese applicants) OR working proficiency in Mandarin Chinese (foreign applicants) so as to be able to communicate with both Chinese and International businesses and organizations

 1-3 years work experience in an education or business environment

 Exceptional written communication and networking skills

 A high level of professionalism and ease in working with a diverse range of business and organization contacts in Beijing, as well as with undergraduate students

 Demonstrable research skills to identify promising new internship sites 


 Ability to approach (including cold-call) prospective internship sites and to build relationships with key stakeholders at those sites

 Ability to work well independently as well as across departments as needed

 Expertise across the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

Preferred:


  Experience working with university students, including in a mentoring/professional development capacity

 Knowledge of the US higher education system 


 Experience working in a multinational, multi-cultural environment

 An aptitude for working with databases or CRM systems 


Remuneration and benefits

The Internships Coordinator role will initially be offered as a 12-month full-time contract position, with remuneration and benefits commensurate to experience. The incumbent will be expected to work full-time, based at The Beijing Center office at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing. The Beijing Center is an equal opportunity workplace with flexible working practices. The position will involve occasional attendance at out-of-hours events and some travel within China.
