Job Description

The Kissinger Institute at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars seeks an intern each semester with an interest in, coursework related to, and/or experience working on China and the United States (KICUS).

Fall 2017 Applications are now closed. Spring Internship Applications are due: COB (5PM EST) November 10, 2017. Please note that late applications will be not be accepted. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Deadlines:

Summer Internship: March 11
Fall Internship: July 14
Spring Internship: November 10

This internship is part-time (15-20 hours/week) and is unpaid. However, students may arrange to receive academic credit for their internship through their university.

Internship Description
These internships are designed to provide the individuals selected with the opportunity for practical experience in an environment that successfully mixes academic study with public policy. Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with the organization and implementation of KICUS events and programs
  • Assisting staff in managing and updating KICUS’s database and website
  • Researching and monitoring current regional and functional issues for KICUS program planning
  • Assisting staff with communications and logistics strategies
  • Compiling, filing and mailing information
  • Assisting with the preparation of publications
  • And other administrative assignments in support of Center activities

 

Eligibility Requirements
Successful applicants should have strong research and/or administrative skills, be detail-oriented, be able to work independently and collectively as part of group, and be currently enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate degree program, a recent graduate (within the last year), and/or have been accepted to enter an advanced degree program. He/she should have strong writing skills, good analytical and research skills, basic computer skills, and a strong interest in China-related issues. Applicants with proficient or native-level Chinese skills are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience working with Chinese-language materials and Chinese-English translation a plus.

International students are eligible, but they must hold a valid F-1 or J-1 visa and appropriate work authorization. All international students must obtain written permission from their Designated School Official or Responsible Visa Officer at their university stating that they are in valid immigration status and eligible to do an internship at the Center. The Wilson Center is an equal opportunity employer and follows equal opportunity employment guidelines in the selection of its interns.
