The Position

Manage private and government grants function to annually increase foundation and government grant support for China Institute; prepare and supervise all grant writing; and provide writing/editorial support for other development related activities.

Specific Responsibilities

  • • Research, identify, write proposals for and secure grants from appropriate funding sources: government, private and family foundations, and corporations on an on-going basis.
  • • Create ongoing outreach calendar of activities and schedule face-to-face meetings with prospective institutional funders to discuss China Institute and present the Institute’s program needs.
  • • Coordinate and collaborate with other China Institute staff to identify and articulate programs funding priorities.
  • • Work with Director of Development and Board leadership to formulate funding strategies, including foundation relationship management and stewardship reporting.
  • • Manage grants calendar of submissions deadlines and handle all grants correspondence, including acknowledgment letters, declination letters and follow-up, updates, annual stewardship reports or reporting required by funding source, etc.
  • • Partner with Finance Department to ensure appropriate expenditure of funds and documentation.
  • • Maintain accurate records and visit reports in Raiser’s Edge.
  • • Participate in China Institute related development activities.

 

Qualifications

  • • Self-starter with outstanding writing and organizational skills.
  • • Minimum 8 years of successful grant writing and experience and proven track record in successfully applying for and meeting/exceeding fundraising goals.
  • • Successful experience in securing 5 – 6 figure program and unrestricted gifts from institutional funders.
  • • Must be experienced in approaching business professionals at all levels and soliciting support both in person and over the phone.
  • • Ability to work collaboratively with staff in a team environment.
  • • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Raiser’s Edge or equivalent software, Excel, database spreadsheets and Internet research.
  • • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
  • • Knowledge of China and related funding initiatives helpful.
