Job Description
The Managing Editor is responsible for working with the Editorial Director to create a vision and strategy for the product (magazine and website) and managing the Editorial team to produce realize that vision efficiently, up to professional standards, and within budget.
In order to do this, the Managing Editor plans the editorial content of the magazine and oversees its execution, and working with Sales, Marketing and Production to ensure the product’s vision is realized and can be articulated by these departments.
The Managing Editor also represents the company at external events.
Responsibilities:
□ Lead team (both staff and freelance) in the planning of editorial content for web and print content and sets and enforces deadlines and budget for their production. Continually works to streamline deadlines and efficiency.
□ Plans and executes the cover feature for each issue of the magazine.
□ Works with Editorial Director to plan and execute annual strategic plans for the magazine and website, which involves setting annual and quarterly goals and ensuring their execution.
□ Manages, develops and redeploys personnel to achieve a team of high performers.
□ Relays company information to team, and shares relevant feedback with Editorial Director and General Manager.
□ Develops, maintains and enforces systems for interdepartmental cooperation.
□ Works with team to develop relevant documentation (SOPs) that allow them to complete their work in a more efficient and consistent manner. Once a mechanism is in place to objectively measure this, the Managing Editor is responsible for ensuring that every editor is meeting their daily metrics of posts on website (i.e. number of blog posts, number of interactions on forums, number of galleries uploaded by Web Editor etc.).
Essential Characteristics:
□ BA degree or above.
□ Native English speaker with good writing skills.
□ At least 5 years editing related work experience.
□ Above 2 years leadership experience.
□ Love to be a part of Beijing’s international community.
□ Good Chinese skills preferred.
