Network Engineer

IT Department

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a unique global network of policy research centers in Russia, China, Europe, the Middle East, India, and the United States, is seeking a Network Engineer to work with our IT Department in our Washington, DC center to improve and maintain its global infrastructure.

The position will work with both Carnegie staff and vendors to gather requirements and provide both guidance and network design support. This position requires 5+ years of networking experience, active directory experience (2008 and above), and experience in designing and supporting IP networks for voice, data, and video. The ability to analyze and design network systems to achieve efficient and secure operation is essential. Familiarity with TCP/IP and various internet protocols including DNS, NAT, IPSec, HTTP/HTTPS, SSH, SSL, SNMP, NFS, IPv4, IPv6, Digital Certificates, and Web Security Architecture is essential. Familiarity with IP addressing (IPv4 & IPv6), subnetting, routing, switching, VLANs, NAT, VPN; Firewalls, router ACLs, IPSec VPNs, RADIUS; and networking testing equipment is also essential.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of routing protocols both internal and external, possesses good operational experience, and has the ability to isolate, analyze, and resolve issues. The ideal candidate will also have excellent written and verbal communications skills in addition to documentation skills. Certifications in CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security +, (current) Cisco CCNA, and (current) Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE): Communication are all strongly preferred but not required.
