Working with FCCA staff and Chinese leaders in the Flushing/Queens community, the candidate will research, support, manage, recommend and expand upon all FCCA Chinese and Cross-cultural initiatives and promotions. The candidate will also support and work closely with FCCA’s Chinese Cultural Committee. Formed in 2012, and modeled after FCCA’s Korean Cultural Committee, the Chinese Cultural Committee promotes the richness and diversity of Chinese culture and the arts, attracts new Chinese audiences of all ages to Flushing Town Hall, as well as donors, corporate sponsors and media support. This is a full-time position that currently reports to the Executive and Artistic Director. The Outreach Coordinator will make recommendations to programming staff, and will work closely with all departments. Duties of this position will also include: translations of FCCA promotional materials, selling of advertising and rental spaces, attending local events, arrangements of press conferences, and other duties, as assigned.
Candidates, preferably of Chinese heritage, must be fluent in spoken and written Mandarin and/or Cantonese and English, and must be familiar with Queens County. A track record in audience development, outreach, community engagement and a background in the arts are essential, as well as strong marketing and communication skills, computer literacy, and the ability to focus on details and deadlines. Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience. Some evening and weekends required.
FCCA was founded in 1979 to be a revitalizing force for its community, a creative force for developing and promoting the arts throughout Queens, and a bridge to promote intercultural understanding in the most diverse borough in the country. FCCA is a multidisciplinary arts presenting organization, offering a year-round series of high-quality arts programs, including jazz, dance, visual arts, educational programs for school children, family performances with interactive art workshops, educational opportunities for community residents of all ages, and services to local artists and arts organizations. FCCA is a designated member of New York City’s Cultural Institutions Group (CIG) and a Smithsonian Institution Affiliate. Queens is one of the most culturally diverse counties in the U.S. in which 168 languages are spoken and half of the population is not proficient in English. FCCA is unique among other Queens cultural institutions, because our immediate neighborhood of Flushing is predominantly Asian, specifically Chinese and Korean; and at least ΒΌ of our programming reflects our immediate neighbors.
