Overview

Job Description

The China American Psychoanalytic Alliance is currently looking for part-time ESL teachers willing to commit at least 1 hour per week teaching ESL via Skype to Chinese mental health professionals applying to or studying with our program.

The students in our ESL program are aspiring or current CAPA students
(Chinese mental health professionals) who are looking to improve their
conversational English. Prospective students may have been rejected
from our program and need to improve their English before they
reapply.

Depending on how many students you want to take on, the time
commitment is about 1 hour per week per student (for 10 weeks). So, if
you only have time for one student (1 hour a week), that’s fine. If
you want to take on as many as 3+ students, you can, as long as we
have that many students available.

The course focuses on conversational English, not reading and writing.
We want our ESL students to feel comfortable speaking in a graduate
level course. You can talk about anything together – psychotherapy,
movies, books, etc. Your student may prefer to talk about psychology
topics, but that is not a requirement.

You and your student will schedule a mutually convenient time to meet up each week. Because of the time difference, you’ll likely work with students in the morning or in the evenings.

Compensation: The cost of each ESL course (10 hours total) is $180 US for the student. The student will pay you directly via Paypal. In this case, you will technically make $18/hour.

Requirements:

– No prior experience with ESL required, but we prefer students who are psychology, social work or mental health graduate students (MA, MS, MSW, PhD, PsyD, LMHC, etc.)

– Native English speaking ability required

– Empathy and comfort speaking to Chinese mental health professionals via video chat about various topics required

– Required to dedicate at least 1 hour a week to teaching
