Job Description
Academic Programs International (API) is a private study abroad organisation based in Austin (TX) in the United States. We offer API students the experience of a lifetime with study abroad and international exchange programs in the South Pacific Asia, Europe, Latin America and The Middle East. API is seeking a part-time Resident Coordinator (RC) for its study abroad program in Shanghai, China. The Shanghai program operates during the fall, spring and summer terms. The typical RC will already have a full time job or be a graduate student in Shanghai seeking a part-time position (approximately 5-10 hours per week on average) to supplement other income.
The RD serves as API´s primary liaison for the program and coordinates communication between University partners, students and our office in Austin. S/he is responsible for undertaking all tasks necessary for the smooth and successful operation of the program.
The candidate will perform administrative functions by planning, organizing, and directing the day to day operations of the study abroad program in Shanghai. S/he handles academic and all non-academic issues, such as activities and excursions. He or she will monitor classes and advise students with regard to the most common academic questions on matters concerning attendance, university regulations, etc. The RD directs each term’s orientation sessions, must meet frequently with API´s students (both informally and during regular office hours) to evaluate their goals, progress, and adjustment to studying in a foreign culture. In addition, the RD is responsible for managing the programs operating budgets and submitting financial reports. S/he works with the Regional Director, the Program Manager, and students to solve any problems or issues.

Requirements, in Order of Priority
- A BA in a relevant discipline
- 1st hand knowledge of Chinese language and culture and familiarity with the city of Shanghai
- Fluency in English
- Excellent management & organizational skills
- A demonstrated sensitivity to student needs and cultural differences
- A commitment to education and study abroad
- Professional or academic experience working with Americans
- A desire to help develop and improve our programs further.
